Types Of Car Stereo Speakers

By: Victor Epand

Several types of car stereo systems are available in the market. A car stereo speaker is judged according to a lot of specifications. Buyers are advised to be careful and look for these specifications.

The first criterion that a buyer should consider is the frequency response. It should be higher and wider so that the function of capturing and reproducing the sound is performed in a much better way. In addition to this a buyer should also consider the efficiency or sensitivity of the speakers which decides how far the sound will travel.

Going for a component speaker will make the listening more thrilling since it gives a complete range and quality of sound inside the car. The power of car stereo speakers should be so efficient that it does not diminish the riding power of the car. While shopping for various types of car stereo speakers, it is good to listen to each type because each has a sound of its own.

The automakers have designed various kinds of car stereo speakers, which could reproduce certain frequencies. The wider the frequency response of a speaker is the more sound the speaker will capture and reproduce. This can be explained with an example. To capture and reproduce treble high pitched frequencies a tweeter is the best. A sub woofer can only capture the low frequency, that is, the bass.

Today one can find different types of car stereo speakers like multi element speakers also known as coaxial speakers, midbass or midrange speakers, component speakers and sub woofers.

Multi element or coaxial speakers consist of two types of speakers, woofers and tweeters that are constructed into one. The woofer, shaped like a large cone, generates low range frequencies while the tweeters in three small cones handle the high pitched frequencies. The classification of the speaker is based on the number of elements or components built inside the speakers. For example, when a speaker comes with one woofer at the back and two tweeters it is called a 3 way speaker.

Midrange speakers are those speakers that are designed to capture and reproduce the middle and sometimes low bass frequencies. A midrange speaker is generally smaller than a woofer and can reproduce frequency range of approx 300 to 5000 hertz. Mid range car speakers are fitted in the side or the door panels of the cars.

Component speakers can reproduce high pitched frequencies. These kinds of speakers consist of tweeters and horn loaded compression drivers. If a tweeter comes above 25 kilo hertz then it is called a super tweeter.

The last type of car stereo speaker is the sub woofer which is capable of reproducing the lowest frequencies. Moreover, this sub woofer can amplify the frequencies considerably.
